While trying to sell our home, a home inspection unexpectedly identified possible vermiculite insulation in our attic. The inspector collected a sample, and unfortunately it tested positive. We quickly learned this is actually a fairly common issue with many 1960s ranch homes in Michigan, but it was still a stressful surprise. From the very beginning, Greg came out to assess our attic and immediately put us at ease. He was incredibly knowledgeable, honest, professional, and took the time to explain the entire process. His quote was very fair, and there was never any pressure—just straightforward advice and excellent customer service. The REST Environmental crew completed a full attic insulation removal and vermiculite asbestos abatement, and I honestly couldn’t be more impressed. They worked under some of the hottest, most brutal conditions during the Metro Detroit heat wave. We fully expected the project to be delayed because of the extreme temperatures, but this team pushed through safely, worked incredibly hard, and still finished on schedule. Their work ethic, professionalism, and attention to detail were outstanding from start to finish. Only Hire Experienced Professionals!

Here is an unfortunate story of a homeowner hiring a mold removal company that was “the cheapest price”. An original homeowner (seller) of a property hired a different company to remediate mold for about $2000. The contracted company sprayed over the mold with a stain blocking paint, telling the homeowner that it would remove the mold successfully (which does not work). They also didn’t address any ventilation issues to stop any further problems.

Correcting the mold problem was part of the real estate sales agreement. A couple of years later, the new owner (buyer) found the attic to have a seriously bad mold condition. The new homeowner is dealing with limited options, and potentially having to pay for a complete roof tear off, and up to $18,000 of uninsured repairs to the attic to restore it to the original condition.

Cheaper is not better when you are dealing with the health of your home and potential legal issues. It is crucial to investigate the education and training of the person you hire to work on your home!
